Strategy Editing

After CAM Assist has calculated the operations for a part, it is possible to make edits to these before sending to the CAM package.

The strategy editor mode permits changes be made to the machining strategy initially created by CAM Assist.

This is done from the Program tab in the Analyze stage. Any operation which supports edits will display the Edit icon next to it. Select the edit button to select an editing step.

The edits provided depend on the operation type, and the alternative options given are pre-validated as possible by CAM Assist, based on the original inputs during the Prepare stage (E.g., tool libraries selected, machining mode and machining directions).

Editing Strategies

To make a strategy edit, select options from the available drop down lists (these options will vary by toolpath type):

Edit operation opens up a panel with specific editing options. These options will vary according to the operation and available parameters.

Select Apply to commit the edit. This will update the operation’s information in the Program list.

Select Cancel to abandon the edit.

Some operation types have multiple editing options available which interact with each other. As you make new selections you may see others automatically updating, so that the overall strategy always remains valid. Any settings which you have selected a new option for become locked, indicated by the lock icon, and therefore cannot be automatically changed. You can also manually lock a setting by selecting the lock icon to stop it auto updating:

As settings become locked this will filter the other drop down lists to show only compatible options. You can manually unlock a setting by selecting the lock icon, which may reveal more options.

Edited operations are represented by the edit button having a circle around it. Note that some edits may impact more than just the selected operation.  Each impacted operation will feature the edit icon surrounded by a circle.

Edits may also be undone or redone, or to return to the original strategy state, Undo All Edits can be chosen.
