A thread cutting tap cuts internal threads in a pre-drilled hole. CAM Assist needs its thread specification and point geometry to drive the tapping cycle at the correct feed-per-revolution.

the overview.
Main cutting geometry
Thread diameter TD
The nominal diameter of the thread the tap cuts (e.g. the 6 in M6). The primary identifier of the tap.
Thread cutting part length THL
The threaded length of the tap, which limits how deep a thread it can produce.
Flute count NOF
Number of flutes; affects chip evacuation and cutting torque.
Thread units
Whether the thread is metric or imperial. This switches between the two fields below.
Thread pitch TP Metric
The distance between threads. With the diameter it defines the thread and the exact feed-per-revolution the tap must run at.
Threads per inch TPI Imperial
The imperial equivalent of pitch.
Thread hand THDH
Right-hand or left-hand thread.
Thread form type THFT
The thread standard/form (e.g. metric coarse, UNC), for correct identification.
Point chamfer geometry
The taper at the tap's tip that leads it into the hole.
Tap chamfer point diameter TCPD
The diameter at the very tip of the chamfered lead.
Tap chamfer length TCL
The length of the chamfered lead. With the point diameter, this sets how many threads are tapered for lead-in and how close to the bottom of a blind hole a full thread can be formed.
Non-cutting geometry
Overall length OAL
Total length from the holder face to the tip.
Connection diameter machine side DCONMS
The shank/connection diameter where the tap meets the holder.
Protruding length LPR
The tap's default protruding length (stickout); assemblies can override it.
Relief / shank geometry
Usable length LU
The length below the holder that can be brought into the cut.
Shank mode
Basic for a simple neck, or Advanced for a stepped body profile.
Neck diameter DN Basic
Reduced neck diameter for clearance in deep holes.
Body segments Advanced
A multi-step body profile (diameters, lengths, taper angles).
Tool materials
Tool material BMC
The tap substrate (e.g. carbide, HSS).
Coating property CTP
Whether the tap is coated.
Coating COATN
The coating name/designation, if any.
Grade identification GRDID
The manufacturer's grade.
Supplementary cutting geometry
Flute helix angle FHA
Helix angle of the flutes; affects chip flow direction (important for through vs blind holes).
Coolant supply CSP
Whether the tap has through-tool coolant.
Connection code type machine side CCTMS
Standardised connection/interface code on the machine side.
