What are tools in session?

In CAM Assist, tools in session refers to the cutting tools that are currently available in the current CAM software session you are running. In other words, it means using the tool library that is loaded in your active CAM project. When you choose tools from session as the tool source, CAM Assist will generate toolpaths only with the tools already defined in your CAM session. This contrasts with using CloudNC’s built-in toolsets, or your tool libraries. It gives you control to have CAM Assist stick to the specific cutters you’ve set up for the job.

Why do tools in session matter in CAM Assist?

Tools in session matter because they align CAM Assist’s suggestions with the exact tools you have on hand or prefer to use. For example, if your shop has a particular set of tools loaded for a part you have previously run, but those tools don't exist within the tool library, selecting “tools in session” ensures CAM Assist doesn’t suggest tool that is not present in that CAM session. It increases trust in the AI output since it won’t introduce unfamiliar tool sizes or types outside your inventory.

Additionally, it saves time – you don’t need to later swap out recommended tools for your actual ones, because CAM Assist already limited itself to your session’s tools. In short, it provides more predictability and integration with your existing CAM workflow.

Where can I find / adjust tools in session in CAM Assist?

Tools in session are found when you load CAM Assist 2.0 in the top navigation bar of the 'Prepare' phase. Also, you will find tools in session if you navigate to My Machine Shop and to My Tools.
